Variable speed solutionsIt was in the early 1990s that considerable advances in power electronics combined with the ruggedness of the IP55 induction motor, a mass-produced enclosed motor, opened up new opportunities for the use of variable speed. Continuously adapting the motor speed to that of the application improves overall productivity and results in significant energy savings. The first sectors to benefit were centrifugal applications such as pumps and fans. Nowadays, Leroy-Somer offers several induction motor ranges specifically designed to operate at variable speed which satisfy the demands of processes: operation at constant torque without derating, high efficiency, compactness, “free” maintenance, etc. At the same time, advances in industrial electronics have led to the creation of drives capable of configuring and controlling a machine’s most complex movements accurately. Relying on its acquired experience, Leroy-Somer offers a number of solutions which are simple to implement and fully configurable. Capable of communicating with one another via fieldbuses, Leroy-Somer drives can control all the movements of a set of machines with different functions. |
